12 Step Facebook Page Creation

Use the following 12-step checklist to guide you through creating a new Facebook Page for your business from scratch.

facebookIn a digital world like the one in which we live, it is imperative to have a presence where consumers are. Every day millions of consumers do product research and make purchases online. If you are not present on the web, your competition online is taking all of that business. Using social media such as Facebook to connect with these consumers is a smart move for anyone looking to reach out and make connections with potential consumers.

Objective: To build a Facebook fan Page, and market it to build a fan base.


Step 1: Go to http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php


Step 2: Choose your business category from the following choices

  • Local business or place: a brick and mortar store.
  • Company, Organization, or Institution: an online store with one online vendor or umbrella companies with more than one physical location.
  • Brand or Product: businesses who sell their products through several different vendors.
  • Artist, Band, or Public Figure
  • Entertainment
  • Cause or Community


Step 3: Choose and enter a name for the business


Step 4: Skip the first two steps that are prompted by Facebook and enter your website on the third step before clicking “continue.”


Step 5: Click “info” on the left menu and then click the “edit page” button at the top


Step 6: Fill in all your basic information and make your way through the left menu, filling out all your desired settings.

Step 7: Create and upload your profile photo at a size of up to 180 pixels wide by 540 pixels high and adjust the thumbnail.


Step 8: Create a custom landing page with either the static iFrames App or an App like Pagemodo.


Step 9: Market your page

  • Invite the friends from your personal profile.
  • Import your contact lists from other mail programs and send an invitation to your page.
  • Add a like button to your own website


Step 10: Update your status

  • Share articles, videos, photos, and ideas related to your business that your target market would find interesting, useful, or fun.


Step 11: Pay attention to your insights to further develop a description for your target market and the type of content they enjoy.


Step 12: Advertise with Facebook Ads.

  • Choose from sponsored stories or Facebook ads.
  • Write the copy for the ad and upload an image.
  • Target your audience.
  • Choose the campaign type, price, and schedule.
  • Review ad analytics and make any necessary adjustments to improve performance.
